Difference between painters and painting companies?
Choosing between painting and flooring companies is inherently difficult. There are many things to consider, such as price, assurances (insurance/workman’s comp), and overall trust built throughout the sales process. Avon is more keen on dealing with fly-by-night contractors simply because of the reputation of wealth. We often find ourselves bidding on projects that require a lot of painting experience and product knowledge, yet a fair number of the companies bidding alongside us are newly opened or not run by tenured tradesmen.
Step 1: It starts with the 1st call
Before considering any company, your 1st impression is the gut feeling that should guide you through deciding who is the best fit for your project. I always ask myself, did an office answer my call or did a guy on a ladder answer my call? There is nothing wrong with being an owner-operator in the trades, but consider this: can an owner-operator handle a project of my size? Sometimes the answer is yes, but with tradeoffs.
Step 2: The estimate
Here’s what to look for when considering painting companies in the Cleveland Market
- How old is the company
- Do they have proper insurance and Workman Comp Paperwork
- Do they use sub contractors or do they have employees
- How did they show up (this is a sneak peak of how the painting experience will be)
- Warranty! Beware of any warranty that is far beyond the company's age
- Contracts! Did they listen and give you a proposal or did they email you a half baked quote
